School Fees Planning

No matter how far in the future you wish to send your children to a high quality independent place of education, there will be a beneficial plan available to you. If your children are currently receiving independent education, we also offer plans that may interest you.

There are a variety of schemes available designed to help parents fund the costs of independent or further education for their children.

The main form of planning involves spreading an element of the school fees over a longer period of time. For example, a parent may be able to comfortably afford 70% of the school fees from income; however, the additional amount may prove to be a strain on finances. In this instance, it may be possible to effect a draw-down plan to spread the school fees for the 30% over, say, a 10, 15 or 20 year period.

Should you be in the position of having a lump sum that you can ‘earmark’ specifically to meet the cost of future school fees, there are a number of plans open to you. Early investment of capital in this way can prevent the necessity of using income to provide for school fees in later years. Investment in the form of a lump sum can provide an attractive return to help fund school fees.

Regular savings for school fees can help minimise future costs and should be started as soon as possible. It is a good idea to commence school fees planning before your children are even born. The longer you save, the less the impact there will be on income when school fees fall due.

There are beneficial schemes available for those with children already undertaking independent education that can spread the cost of immediate school fees, while improving cash flow for the parent.

Many parents overlook the need to protect school fees in the event of unforeseen events. We strongly recommend that parents put in place plans to protect against the following:

  • Death
  • Critical illness
  • Long-term injury / illness

This will ensure the safety of your investment and the continuity of your child's education.
